LECTURES

WEEK 1 - Arranging video clips in Adobe Premiere Pro

In our first week, Mr Martin introduces us to the video editing tool we will be using througout the module - Adobe Premiere Pro. We were first to learn how to arrange the video clips in the correct order.

While arranging the video clips, we have tp watch the clips to figure out the sequence as they were in random orders.

WEEK 2 - Shooting Exercise - Composition

In week 2, Mr Martin taugh us about framing with different size shots. We were to shoot 8 different angle shots:
1. Low angle wide shot
2. Frontal medium close-up
3. Frontal medium shot
4. Extreme close-up shot
5. Side angle (profile) medium shot
6. ¾ angling medium close-up shot
7. Close-up shot
8. Eye-level medium wide shot

Each shot should be 5 seconds in length and we were to add captions to indicate different shots.

Device used: Iphone 12 Pro Max

After completing all the shots, I edited the video clips in Adobe Premiere Pro.

1. Wide shot - high angle (solo)
2. 3 single full-body shots - eye level (members at the side)
3. Medium shot - eye-level (solo)

Due to the low resolution shots of Qian Tong's original video, (and also I wanted to have some fun when doing this exercise), I decided to add some effects to our video so that it doesn't look "unmatchy" when our videos get combined.  I used comic effect and adjusted the contrast, colour and brightness to the video.  Tripod was used for all shots. Clips range from 4 to 7 seconds and some were cut to fit the tempo of the music.

Editing Exercise - Lalin

Our second exercise to edit the video shots of a short film based on the film called "My name is LALIN". Our task is to assemble them based on the storyboard and trim the clips accordingly then apply simple transitions to the video shots.

Audio Dubbing Exercise

In week 3, we were also task to add and edit sound effects to a muted video clip from the Disney film "Soul".

Sound effects are to be sourced from:

*My screenshots for this exercise were gonne due to unknown reasons. But I used an iPhone 12 Pro Max to record the audio of mine and edited them in Adobe Audition. Later, I combined the audio and video clip in Final Cut Pro as Adobe Premier Pro was constantly lagging in my laptop.

Audio Exercise 2: Sound Shaping Exercise

For exercise 2 we have to use the audio clip provided and edit the following effects onto it.
- Voice of phone call
- Voice from inside of the closet
- Voice of big stadium
- Voice of toilet/bathroom
- Underground cave

I did this exercise by following the demostration of Mr. Martin's recorded lecture.

Audio Exercise 3 - Sound Design

In this exercise we were to use the audio clips provided and edit them based on the following:
- Explosion magnification
- Variation of punch sounds (triple punch)
- Monster of alien voice (select one part from sample voice)

Fig. 2.3 Alien voice in lower pitch shift progress

Figure 2.4 Explosion magnification - Reverse low pitch

For the explosion, I layered the tracks with different reverb and effects in 5 layers to make them sound more magnified. Two of the sound tracks were also reverse to create a more 3D explosion sound effects. I also adjusted the Semi Tones and Cents to make the sound more blended.

Figure 2.5 Explosion magnification - Layering progress

As for the punch sounds, we were to create triple punch sounds. I purposely make the duration after the first punch longer, and the second and third punches sounds more closer to make the video games punches effect we often heard like Pam----Pam-Pam. I edited the punch sound with pitch shifter as well.

FEEDBACKS

For the dance video, can see that we really enjoyed dancing and editing the video. Good job.

No specific feedbacks on other exercises.

REFLECTIONS

Throughout all the exercises, I learned how to use Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe Audition to  edit and apply basic settings to the video clips. I actually find this module interesting as I like to explore different types of settings whether it is editing and adding effects to the audio or adding transitions and effects to video clips.
