Ms Noranis brief us for our final task. First of all, she talks about the storytelling basics which includes the central theme, major theme, minor theme and conflict. Then, she introduces us the 3-Act Structure. The 3-Act structures divides a story into 3 parts which are the Setup, Rising Tension and Conflict. Ms Noranis then showed us an example of story narrative.

Task 3 : Web Toon
Visual Research
Initially, I've thought about some ideas for the horror story, but I'm not satisfied with any of them so I kept modifying the story. Below is one of my initial story idea:
Version 1 -
One day, Shawn, Dave, Melissa and Rachel went for a hiking trip together. They stayed in a homestay a day before they hike. In the next morning, a total stranger at their age approach them and asked if he could join them together for the hike because he has no friend that is willing to hike with him. 4 of them immediately welcomed him. The boy introduces himself as Kei then they started the long journey together. Everything was fine until in the middle of the journey, Kei stopped his steps and smiled at his four new friends. Suddenly, he push Dave off the cliff. Then he look at Melissa and Rachel with a smile and slowly approach them. Shawn saw everything and he was so scared. Suddenly, he woke up from his dream. He realised it was just his dream. He felt strange because he didn’t even know who is Kei in real life. The next day is the actual day they go for the trip, Shawn, Dave, Melissa and Rachel felt excited for the trip. When they reached the bottom of the mountain, one person came up and asked if he can join them to hike together as he come here alone. Shawn was so shocked because that person is exactly Kei, who was in his dream last night. Shawn did not tell his friends about this and his friends welcomed Kei to the group before he can tell them what he happened in his dream last night. No one has any strange feelings at first except for Shawn as from the beginning Kei looks like a very friendly person. Shawn didn’t plan to tell his friends what happened in his dream as he tell himself it was just a dream and he doesn’t want his friends to think too much. They started hiking early in 4a.m.. During half of the journey, at a spot where there are no other people, Kei suddenly stopped his footstep and smiled at the friends. Shawn was so scared as it reminds him of the dream yesterday, then, he slowly approach Dave like what he did in the dream. Shawn shouted at Dave and asked him to run. Before Dave rise his legs, Kei pushedhim so hard that he fell off from the cliff. Shawn,Melissa and Rachel looked at each other knew. that something scary is happening. Then all of a sudden, Kei smiled towards Melissa and Rachel. Shawn was so terrified because the scene was exactly same as the dream last night. He knows Kei is going for Melissa and Rachel next, so he whipered to them and ask them to hide themselves. But it was too late, Kei is slowly approaching the three of them. Then, he smiled and pushed Melissa and Rachel off the cliff, which os also exactly the same scene as what happened in his dream. He was the only person left now, he started shivering when Kei approach him.
1 year later, another group of 4 friends went hiking together, then Shawn approach them and asked if he can join them to hike together as he came here alone. The group of friends welcomed him nicely, Shawn smiled.
But then I think it was quite long and complicated to be drawn and interpreted so I modified it into a simpler version.
Version 2 -
One day, Brandon, Dave, Melissa went for a hiking trip together. They camped at the bottom of the mountain a day before they hike. Everything was fine until the next morning a total stranger at their age approach them. He asked if he could join them together for the hike because he has no friend that is willing to hike with him. Three of them immediately welcomed him. The boy introduces himself as Kei then they started the journey together. In the middle of the journey, Kei stopped his steps and looked at his friends with evil smile. Suddenly, Kei pushed Dave off the cliff. Then, he looked at Brandon and Melissa with the same evil smile and slowly approaching them. Then, Brandon and Melissa Woke up from the same nightmare. On the next day, they started hiking early in 4a.m. Three of them gathered outside their homestay and felt excited for the trip. When they were about to start the journey, one person came up and asked if he could join them to hike together as he came here alone. Brandon’s eyes widen and he was so shocked because that person is exactly Kei, who was in his dream last night. Brandon did not tell his friends anything as his friends already welcomed Kei to join them before he can tell them what happened in his dream yesterday. Everything went so normal in the first 2 hours of the journey and Kei looks like a very friendly person so Brandon decided not to tell his friends what happened in his dream. During half of the journey, at a spot where there were no other people around, Kei suddenly stopped his footstep and smiled and the friends. Brandon almost shouted as that smile was exactly the same evil smile in his dream. He was so scared. Kei slowly approach Dave. Brandon looked at Melissa and she had also sense something strange. Then all of a sudden, Kei pushed Dave off the cliff, Brandon was so terrified because the scene was exactly the same as his dream last night. He knows Kei is coming for Melissa next, so he whispered to her. and asked her to hide herself. But it was too late, Kei looked back and approach the two of them with his evil smile. Then, he pushed Melissa off the cliff, which wos also exactly the same scene as what happened in his dream. He was the only person left now, he started shivering when Kei approach him. 1 year later, another group of 4 friends went hiking together, then Brandon approach them and asked if he can join them to hike together as he came here alone. The group of friends welcomed him nicely, Brandon smiled.

Final Submission
Reflection
Before this exercise, I had no idea it was such a tiring process to create a web toon by myself. I almost gave up, though. I'm glad I managed to complete the whole thing. I hated drawing so much but I can feel the improvements now. Throughout the process of creating a web toon, I have developed more ideas and thoughts for story narratives. After all the studies and researches, I’ve gained more experiences in using adobe illustrator. Above all, although there are some frustrations during process of brainstorming the horror story, I think it is a very good and interesting experience for me to learn how to create a webtoon.
One of a few observations I’ve gotten along the way is that making use of both Adobe llustrator and Adobe Photoshop at the same time really helps a lot. In my opinion, mastering the tools we used is very much important as it is a basic to know and practice how to use the tools before we want to create something. I will continue practicing and get more familiar with the tools.
